Madison River Rafting

View Beartrap Trips

The Bear Trap Canyon is a remote and scenic stretch of the Madison river that flows out of Ennis Lake, through a steep and rocky canyon.  On this trip you will enjoy amazing scenery, exciting rapids, and peaceful floating. Our knowledgeable and experienced guides also serve a deli-style lunch on the side of the river!

The Kitchen Sink is the biggest rapid in the Bear Trap Canyon of the Madison River.

The Bear Trap Canyon of the Madison offers breathtaking views.

Montana Whitewater is proud to offer full day trips through the Bear Trap canyon under a special-use permit from the BLM. These trips are designed to be taken with small groups with a maximum of 2-3 boats.

As one of only two outfitters on the Madison, we know you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet of being some of the only people on the river.  You may see eagles circling overhead, mountain sheep and goats navigating rocky cliffs, and you might even see a bear!

If you are an avid angler, we also do guided fly fishing through Bear Trap Canyon as well as the Lower Madison. You can check out our fly fishing information here.

Family Trip with Teens

Trip was perfect for our family with 3 teenagers. Our guide was funny and did a great job making sure we were safe but also having fun the whole time. Lunch was good and the timing of the trip was perfect - we did the full day and even the travel back to the car was easy. Would highly recommend Montana Whitewater!!! Thank you!

They were very helpful in making this first rafting trip for our 86 year old father fun. Our family has rafted with Montana Whitewater two years in a row and have enjoyed our adventure both times. Hoping to go back again.
