  • Ideal for beginners looking for a more gentle step by step path to possibly learning hardshell kayaking
  • Paddle an inflatable kayak first (its has way more stability than a hardshell kayak)
  • Learn the skills necessary to navigate easy whitewater
  • Feel comfortable as a beginner in order to get a solid foundation to build the skills to be a competent boater

Fast Track Intro to Kayaking and Swiftwater Rescue Skills - Level 2
  • Ideal for bold beginners who are ready to jump right into hardshell kayaking
  • Paddle a hardshell kayak on the first day
  • Practice swimming out of your boat and self rescue techniques
  • Receive introductory rolling instruction

Teen Whitewater Programs

At Montana Whitewater, we understand our youth are the future stewards of our sport. That is why we have designed programs to engage young people in a fulfilling endeavor. These courses teach responsibility and leadership, as well as the hard skills of river rescue and whitewater navigation.
Introduction to Rafting and Swiftwater Rescue Skills
Not quite old enough to guide commercially, but interested in river guiding? Participants will learn under the supervision of an expert instructor, while working on whitewater skills and building leadership style. This session is guaranteed to be a fun time and a team oriented learning experience!

Introduction to Kayaking and Swiftwater Rescue Skills
This course is intended to be a fun introduction to whitewater kayaking for teens. Skilled and patient instructors will tailor the program to the needs and skill level of the group. River safety and teamwork will be key components of this four-day course.

  • Paddle a hardshell kayak on the first day
